The action will commence on Saturday morning at 9am and Kempsey Macleay Off-road Racing Club vice-president Mat Huxley is expecting plenty of competitive racing.
“There’s a lot of talent drivers entered this year and it will make for interesting and exciting racing,” Huxley told the Argus.
“Locals are well represented and there’s a good chance a local will take out the title.”
Competitors will be given an opportunity to get a feel for the course for the first 30-minutes before the Prolog begins at 9.30am.
The top 10 fastest times recorded will go into a shootout to compete for pole position.
The shootout is an altered 2km loop and crowd members can view the entire race from the spectators stand.
Following the shootout, the first Wittitrin race will commence after lunch and it’s scheduled for four laps.
Racing will recommence on Sunday morning at 9.30am with the second race of the Wittitrin.
The second race will be six laps and after a well earned break the competitors will hit the track for the third and final race.
The combined times of all three races will determine the placings in each division.
Huxley is hoping the past won’t repeat itself as he looks to overcome a disappointing finish to the 2017 Wittitrin.
Huxley won the top 10 shootout before claiming victory in the first race. However, disaster struck as he flipped his vehicle and a mechanical problem prevented him from finishing the competition.
Huxley identified three local drivers who will be hard to beat this weekend.
“David Spokes, Timmy Baker and Richard Wilton are three great local drivers who I expect to compete for the title,” Huxley said.
“David and Timmy competed in the 43rd Finke Desert Race earlier this year and proved they are capable of competing against the best drivers in Australia.
“David finished in 14th place and Timmy was 25h out of more than 100 competitors.
“Richard competes in Class 2 and is currently second in NSW in the division, he will be looking for a great finish to stay near the top of the overall point score.”
It’s free entry for spectators on both days and there will be a sandpit with toys on the site to keep the children occupied.
A canteen is available and a donation tin will be carried around to collect donation to help the struggling farmers.
Huxley encourages the community to show their support and attend for a great day of racing.
“It should be really entertaining racing on both days.”
