A man armed with a machete entered the Riverview Hotel in Smithtown through an unlocked side door and threatened a staff member behind the bar at 9pm last night.

The Riverview Hotel employee was in the process of locking up when the man grabbed $2180 in cash off the bar and fled the scene.
The man was wearing a balaclava.
Two staff were inside when the incident took place and neither were harmed.
CCTV footage has been handed over to the police.
The robbery follows a string of break and enters in the Macleay.
Police reported at least seven local businesses were broken into last week.
