Melville High School’s Under-14s rugby league side has fallen short of completing a rugby league fairytale as they were eliminated in the Buckley Shield yesterday after suffering an 18-12 loss in their semi-final against Kiama High School.

The side wasn’t able to repeat their heroics from the quarterfinal match up with Chifley College, which saw them snatch victory on the full-time siren, as they fell centimeters short of forcing golden point extra time.
The talented Melville side continued to fight to the death but weren’t able to produce the miracle comeback.
The Kiama team was a well drilled outfit and Melville High School teacher David Jacobs was proud of the efforts of all of the boys and congratulated them on an amazing achievement.
The defeat means Melville finish in equal third in the Buckley Shield competition.
The Under-14s side advanced to the semi-final after earning wins against Macksville, Cmaden Haven, South Grafton, Maclean High, Warner’s Bay and Chifley College.
Melville High School has proven to be a breeding ground for rugby league talent this year after their Open Men’s side also had plenty of success in the statewide competition.
The Open Men’s were eliminated in the quarterfinals after suffering a defeat at the hands of Terrigal High school.
