Nick Irvine, Ollie Eakin, Alex Clegg, Kye Flanagan and Levi Langham fought hard and earned plenty of respect.
Levi Langham shined and claimed gold in Under-17s 63kg while Kye Flanagan came away with silver after earning the call up into a higher weight division.
Kye fought in two categories. In his first he was defeated by the eventual winner but received a second opportunity the next day to step up and he welcomed the challenge and finished in second place.
Nick stepped into the ring for his very first fight and gave it his all. Unfortunately he suffered a loss in a close decision in the quarterfinals to the eventual champion. It was the fight of the night.
With his original opponent pulling out of the tournament Ollie was asked to step up another weight division. Without hesitation Ollie accepted.
Unfortunately Ollie was also defeated by the eventual winner of his category. Ollie’s opponent started the fight one hundred miles an hour and didn’t stop until the final bell.
Alex was the victim of a questionable decision. Trainer Adam Fathers believes he 100 per cent won the fight as he landed the cleaner punches and took the fight to his opponent for the whole three rounds but disappointingly the judges didn’t see it this way and awarded his opponent the victory.
Fathers was extremely proud of all of the competitors who flew the flag for PCYC Kempsey. He thanked Dean Robinson for his help throughout the tournament.
