The Macleay Association entered their Opens, Masters, 17’s and 15’s Rep Teams this year. All teams had a positive first round to start the league off.
The Opens are a totally new team of players having not played together as a team this year.
For a group of ladies with no experience playing as a team they really showed some great potential and took a lot out of the day.
They are in the division 1 group which is a very tough competition. Under the watchful eye of top Macleay coach Georgie Murphy who has a lot to offer from her wealth of experience both as a player and a coach this team is sure to improve come round 2 and push towards a finals spot.
The Masters team who competed at the state championships back in May have come back together to field a team in the division 2 poole.
This team has a lot of experience and talent between them and played so well over their 4 games on the day. They came away with 2 wins and 2 loses, with the loses not being by much, which they were more than happy with.
The 17’s team which included some of our 14’s rep team players, need a special mention after their round 1 efforts in division 3.
This team only had the bare 7 to take the court for the entire day and made their coaches, Debbie Burley, Karen Lambley and Kay Iverach very proud.
They didn’t give up and toughed it out all day with no reserves. Even ending the day playing short with just 6 players due to an injury. Well done girls, be very proud of yourselves.
Finally the youngest of the 4 teams, the 15’s who are competing in division 4 had their first taste of regional league. This team has loads of talent and potential and played some great netball.
They will only improve and gain lots of experience as the competition progresses which is a real positive.
Thank you to all the players, coaches, managers, umpires, umpiring mentors and families who took time out of their weekend to come along to represent and support the Macleay Netball Association.
The second round of the regional league will be heldin Kempsey in a few weeks time on Sunday September 16.
There will be some great netball on display so why not come along, watch and support our local teams. Games times are yet to be scheduled but it will be approximately from 9.30am.
The finals will then be held the following week on Sunday September 23 at the Woolgoolga Netball Association.
Hopefully we will see the Macleay teams all representing in them.
