Despite the recent rainfall, Kempsey Shire Council will be continuing to monitor river levels in the event Level One water restrictions need to be implemented.

Council’s manager Water and Sewer, Wes Trotter, said unfortunately the recent rainfall hasn’t been enough with river levels currently approaching the trigger point for Level One Restrictions.
“The Kempsey Water Cycle is reliant upon the flow of the Macleay River which is impacted by rainfall in the upper Macleay catchment, the area around Armidale and Walcha,” Mr Trotter said.
“If no significant rain falls over the next couple of days then Level One restrictions could come into effect as early as Monday 10 September.
“Council will be continuing to monitor water levels and will keep the community up-to-date with any changes.”
If implemented, the Level One restrictions will apply predominately to households and public areas.
Level One restrictions are now a standardised level across all of the Mid North Coast councils and are what was previously called level 3 in the Kempsey Shire.
It aims to create an immediate impact on water consumption without compromising lifestyles.
