Locals gathered on Monday afternoon at Riverside Park in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day.
Baylin’s Gift held the event which included a barbecue, guest speakers and the option to light a candle for loved ones lost to suicide.
The three guest speakers were Rose from Standby Support after Suicide, Kellie from Lifeline in Port Macquarie and Kempsey’s new Suicide Prevention Program coordinator, Melissa.
Founder of Baylin’s Gift, Hayley Hoskins, said although a quiet event this year, people braved the cold conditions to remember loved ones.
“The people who did come to Riverside Park have all lost someone to suicide or have been affected by it,” she said.
“It’s a quiet event for people to remember those lost to suicide and to come together to reflect.”
Baylin’s Gift will also be holding the first PFLAG (parents, family and friends of lesbians and gays) meeting on September 22, followed by It’s Ok on the Macleay on September 23.
