And there are two local events to dip your toes into on October 14.
The Nambucca Offshore Fishing Club will be hosting their Gone Fishing for Kids day again, from 8am-5pm on the Sunday at Bellwood Park.
The free event, with BBQ after, aims to introduce primary school children to fishing by providing a fishing competition, explain best practice methods and the benefits of sustainable fishing, tagging and catch and release and how to gather bait.
Last year’s event saw around 40 kids and their mums and dads throw a line in, with prizes handed out for longest fish of the day.
Meanwhile the Urunga Anglers Club in conjunction with the DPI will be running a similar event for all anglers – experienced or not – to celebrate a love of fishing and encourage everyone to get out on the water.
The day will start at the water’s edge at Atherton Dr, Urunga, from 9am, with a free sausage sizzle lunch.
All fishing tackle will be supplied, although you are welcome to bring your own along if you wish.
No fishing license will be required on the day. Fishing and casting sessions are run as guests arrive throughout the day.
