While council meetings remain open to the public, live streaming and recording the meeting will ensure the community has greater access to council decision making. It will also assist people who are working and spread throughout the shire to be more involved with council.
Mayor Liz Campbell said this decision will allow more members of the public to engage with council.
“While we have always welcomed our community to the monthly council meetings, we understand that many people can’t attend due to work or other commitments, and it can be difficult for seniors or residents with mobility issues to come to the chambers,” Cr Campbell said.
“I am pleased that by using new technology we have been able to bring our community closer into the meeting process.”
This move puts council’s process ahead of proposed changes to the Model Code of Meeting Practice, where it is envisaged all council’s in NSW will be required to live stream meetings.
