Safety for users of Riverside Park, Kempsey will soon be enhanced with the installation of some new LED light poles as part of a larger crime prevention project by Kempsey Shire Council.

The park is one of the most popular and well-utilised public spaces in the Macleay Valley with many community and market events staged there on a regular basis.
The new lights are currently being installed along the tree covered walkway in the centre of the park as well as down to the new timber wharf area by the river.
The lighting is part of a larger crime prevention measure by council to help deter anti-social behaviour.
It is also hoped that by having them in place, it will encourage more evening walking and twilight events so residents and visitors can take advantage of the riverside setting.
Under the project, pathway lighting will also be installed in the coming weeks at Brighton Park, South West Rocks and at South Kempsey Park.
The project has been funded through a $300,000 Safer Communities Fund Grant that Council received from the Australian Government Department of Industry, Innovation and Science.
Council has used $150,000 of the funding towards the lighting upgrades in the parks.
A further $150,000 of the grant will go towards the installation of more CCTV cameras in the central business districts of South Kempsey and West Kempsey.
This follows on from Council’s Macleay Valley CCTV Project in 2017 which saw the roll out of 43 cameras across the Shire. Council installed 16 cameras at Smith and Belgrave Streets, four at Riverside Park, 10 at South West Rocks and 10 at Crescent Head as well as three mobile camera units.
