Paul O’Neill reports – victory last Thursday at the Den to Bob Mackay, Pat Clough and Andy DalSanto with a 20-13 win. Runners-up were Lloyd Laird, Louise Schrama and Greg Kirkham. The jackpot remained intact so climbs again for this afternoon’s edition of social mirth.
The men’s Triples final was played on Saturday on a moderately heavy track with defending champs Pat Clough, Beau McKay and Paul O’Neill taking on Ken McKelvie, Greg Kirkham and Matt Hopper. After going down 4-9 after eight ends, the latter trio replied with 10 shots of their own over the next four, thanks in large part to some great lead bowls from ‘Mac’. At end 17, O’Neill’s crew were only down 13-17 but that was all they could manage to go down 25-13. Well done to the winners.

Macksville Women
Thelma Scott reports – we had a game of Pairs with Ruth Flarrety and Donna Soka defeating Elwyn Ainsworth. The other game was a Triples with Karen Liddell as swinging lead. Thelma Scott and Gail Griffith defeated Karen Liddell, Judy Walker and Louise Scharama (a welcome visitor from Victoria). The trophy winner was Gail Griffiths.
We then had our monthly meeting and heard the good news that Stuarts Point and South West Rocks are joining our Mid North Coast District which will give 12 clubs in our district. We also had a visit from Old Bar Traveling Bowlers who joined us in a game of bowls.
Macksville Men
Doug Smith reports – the Thursday jackpot bowls results was determined by the ends plus the margin, and the winners with 22 points were Jye McAuliffe, Keith McDonald and Gary Soyka from Albert, Ken Ainsworth Jnr and Stan Moc with 20 points. The jackpot of $468 was not won.
There has been four games of Handicapped Singles played: Clive Freidnam def Rhonda McAiliffe 200/196, Bevan Chambers def Rod Donohoe 200/180, Gary Clarke def Judy Walker 200/197 and Cliff Yager def Robyn 200/165.
Fun Bowls Friday starts this week. If you have never played bowls or you have had a go at it, this is the game for you. Names to be in by 5pm for bowls at 5.30. Call the club on 6568-1400 or put your name on the nomination sheet.
Nambucca Heads Women
Pat Smith reports – last Wednesday evening saw the start of Summer League with three teams taking part for Nambucca. This format will hopefully attract women who are unable to play during the day.
The Dolphins team No.1 of Janis Cedelland, Michelle Fredericks and Maria Pascoe played Dolphins No.2 of Teena Ryan, Ali Kyle and Bryney Brownlie – resulting in a draw.
Dolphin team No.3 of Hermie Frank, Sandra Seckold and Margaret Dwarte had a draw against Park Beach.
On Thursday another round of Restricted Pairs was played with Rita Foley and Arlene Duffus defeating Sandra Seckold and Vicky Wright 19 shots to 12.
Nambucca Heads Men
Fred Pope reports – last Wednesday’s Club Selected Triples attracted a field of 30 bowlers. The $15 winners were Ken Leggett and Mike Edwards. Second place $10 winners were Jim Sinclair, Ken Brown and Fred Pope. Third prize $5 winners were Ian Jones, Barry Redman and Syd Campton. The lucky losers’ $5 prize went to Ray Platt, Peter Dawe and Danny Curran. Lucky bowler was Darren Jones.
Friday’s Nominated Men’s Triples washed out.
Sunday’s Preso’s Shout winners were Peter Fredericks and Margaret Dwarte. Lucky losers Ali Kyle and Pam James. Second luck losers Sue Lawler and Mike James.

Scotts Head Men
Gary Bishop reports – last weekend saw three of our newer bowlers head off to Kempsey-Macleay for the Rookies Singles - Paul Martin, Anthony Henshaw and Ben Kenay. All players acquitted themselves well with Paul Martin winning his section only to just go down in the Knockout round. Next weekend the same three along with W Harris will contest the Rookies Pairs at Kempsey Heights.
Rink winners for Wednesday October 3 were P Martin, P Royan and T Webber.
Urunga Women
Pat Chapman reports – a successful and happy Gala Day was held on Tuesday October 2 when bowlers were welcomed from Scotts Head, Sawtell, Woolgoolga, Cex Coffs Harbour, Nambucca Heads, Macksville and North Beach as well as district vice-president Heather Hardwick and secretary Lyn Kauffmann. President Jo Bathgate thanked Club Urunga, East Garden Restaurant, chairman of social committee Noela McCabe for her lucky door donations and her band, and to all the Urunga members who contributed to the success of the day.
A composite draw was held for the winners on the day resulting in a win for Bev Jones (Nambucca Heads), Alma Reid (Nambucca Heads), Wendy Polley (Sawtell); 2nd Jo Bathgate, Jan Grogan and Robyn Adams (Urunga).
The closing date for entries in the Consistency competition has been extended to October 16 and will close on October 23. Entries close for the Bradley Tray on October 23 with play on October 30.
In the minor pairs, Irene Algar and Jan Grogan defeated Pam Russell and Joy Lambert 19/16; Bev Cloake and Ros Hancock defeated Janette Banks and Robyn Pettit 16/11.
Urunga bowlers have great pleasure in sending congratulations to their members Brenda Fane and Shirley Willis who were married in Coffs Harbour on October 4. Congratulations also to Beryl and Terry Titmuss who celebrated their Golden Wedding on October 5.

Mid North Coast Veterans
Colin Cutt reports – on Tuesday, October 2, 80 golfers competed at Bonville Golf Course, which was in beautiful spring condition. A grade winner David Poulter 39pts, 1st runner-up Chris Smith 38, 2nd runner-up Kevin Walker 36 c/b, 3rd runner-up Phil Lynch 36 c/b.
B grade: Winner – Kevin Cramer 37, 1st runner-up Bob Stockton 35 c/b, 2nd runner-up Jim Thurlow 35 c/b, 3rd runner-up Ray Lopez 35 c/b.
Also that day, 33 golfers competed at Bowraville Golf Course, in great conditions. Winner Bill Parker 40pts, 1st runner-up Paul McElhinney 37 c/b, 2nd runner-up Dave Salvin 37. NTPs: 2nd Dave Salvin, 7th Ross Donnelly. Balls to 33 points.

Mick Burke reports – at Sunday’s competition at the Ex-Services Club the winner was D Bush, runner-up M Williams. High break T Jenner 22.
Macksville Ex-Services Club would like to offer our deepest condolences to family and friends of Ivan Cooper who has sadly passed recently. Ivan and his wife Dawn contributed enormously to the club for many years.
Nominations are up for the inaugural Ivan and Dawn Cooper Handicap Club Championship.
