During the course of the evening, Lorraine inducted our newest member, Barry Shaw and the Club welcomed him into the Rotary "family", which numbers over 1.2 million members worldwide.
The Club also presented Dennis Chellingsworth with a cheque as our contribution towards his quest to fund the Alaine Davidson Research Fellowship, an Australian Rotary Health PHD scholarship to help find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease. Dennis reflected on the terrible toll taken by this cruel disease on those afflicted and on their families.
The Club's International Director, David Scott gave a short presentation on a project in the village of Thirupalya (population 14,762) which is located in Bangalore, India. With the backing of the Dorrigo Rotary Club, David recently distributed exercise books and pens to pupils of the Government Model Primary School, whose parents cannot afford such items. Dave hopes to continue with the project to improve facilities at the school on behalf of the Rotary Club of Dorrigo.
The Dorrigo Rotary Club meets fortnightly for dinner at the Food Angel cafe. Please ring Nick Wright on 66 578 015 for bookings. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 30 from 6.00pm. Guests are welcome.
