The vessel, christened Caledonia Sky, is anchoring in Trial Bay. During their visit, both crew and passengers are expected to spend the day on shore between 10:30am and 4:30pm.
The ship is likely to have about 80 passengers and 75 crew members who are travelling from Fraser island and stopping at selected coastal ports along the NSW coast, with the ultimate destination being Melbourne.
Kempsey Shire Council is fully on board with the event and the visit has been organised with the support of the NSW Port Authority and Roads and Maritime Services.
There will also be a welcome ceremony at Brighton Park commemorating the voyage, with Local dignitaries invited to attend.
It is hoped this display of the local businesses and landmarks to a group of international guests will encourage more visitors in the future.
Speaking to the Argus, Marilyn Breen the Coordinator of Economic Development and Tourism said
“This is part of a much broader plan to increase visitors to our region,” she added
“Our tourism industry is growing.”
The international guests aboard the ship will be able to explore South West Rocks in the morning and will most likely be on the hunt for the local cuisine, shopping centres and places to relax.
There will also be guided tours for the passengers to showcase the iconic heritage sites, including the Trial Bay Gaol, the Monument Hill walk to Little Bay and the Smoky Cape Lighthouse.
The visit is expected to be a boon to the local area and the hope is that these guests will return in the future.
