Another fun and successful week of eel fishing saw some big eels being weighed-in and then released live back into the river. Although numbers were down this year those who entered were keen and very excited at weigh-in.

In its 32nd year this Eel Fishing Championships is one of a kind and we still hold the Australian record with a monster eel caught by Jai Storr in 2009 weighing a massive 11.65kg

Most weight of eels for the entire week – 27.25kg – went to Fin Fredriksen, $50 cash donated by the Eel Fishing Committee.
And drum roll please: the 2018 Bellingen Eel Fishing Champion and winner of the ‘Waterhole Wal’ Perpetual Trophy is Kyra Clarke 8.7kg.
