The group held a meeting earlier in the week to organise the public meeting and President of the Kempsey Singers, Brian Lindbeck said the theatre is in need of renovations.
“We don’t want it to close, but it’s getting to that stage. We need some funding to keep it going,” he said.
“We need to renew the lighting and air conditioning in the theatre, along with some general renovations to make it more comfortable for visitors.”

The Bandox also requires modernising in regards to updated facilities for disabled people.
“We want the theatre to be enjoyed by all members of the community,” Mr Lindbeck said.
The first production in the Bandox Theatre opened in 1971 and in the 47 years since, the Kempsey Singers have put on around 80 productions for the people of the Macleay Valley and beyond.
“If we want to keep putting on shows for people of the community, we need to renew it,” Mr Lindbeck said.
The public meeting will be held on Tuesday October 30 at 7pm at the Bandbox Theatre. Locals are welcome to come along and discuss the future of the theatre.
“We hope people will realise what an asset they have with this theatre.”
