Trees in the main street of Dorrigo have had commemorative plaques placed beside them courtesy of a Centenary of Armistice community grant that the Dorrigo RSL Sub Branch received from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Nine of the plaques recognise the conflicts that Australia has been involved in since 1900, from the Boer War to Afghanistan. One plaque recognises Australia’s participation in Peacekeeping Operations from 1947 to the present day.
The two major wars we were engaged in, World War 1 and World War 2, are the closest to the Dorrigo Monument. The other plaques are placed randomly on both sides of Hickory Street.
The Dorrigo RSL Sub Branch wishes to sincerely thank Bellingen Shire Council and the men of the Dorrigo Depot for their generous assistance in making this project come to fruition and the magnificent result with new planted garden surrounds for the trees and plaques.
We are looking forward to the judging of the Valuing Our Veterans Shop Window Display Competition this week, and wish all the participants good luck in their efforts. The Sub Branch thanks the Dorrigo Chamber of Commerce for their sponsorship in this event.
The community is invited to attend the Centenary of the 1918 Armistice Commemorative Service at 10.30 on Sunday 11 th November. Poppies and hand waver flags will be made available for the Service. The March from the RSL Club will be for Veterans and members of the Dorrigo RSL Sub Branch only, but everyone else is invited to gather at the intersection. Families are encouraged to wear the medals of their relations.
Following the Armistice Centenary Service there will be a community street party in the northern end of Hickory St from 12.00noon to 2.30pm. Entertainment is being provided by the Bellingen Big Band. Lions Club caravan will supply food as will local cafes.

Families are invited to bring tables, chairs and a picnic lunch and enjoy the atmosphere of the event. The Hickory Street Alcohol Free Zone has been temporarily suspended by Bellingen Shire Council from 12.00 noon until 2.30pm to enable the community to BYO refreshments.
The Dorrigo Girl Guides are organising games for children. There will be a competition for the best decorated table and period costume.
