The Mustangs intend to notify the group of their desire to compete next year, but a Mustangs spokesperson said they have encountered problems since the completion of the 2018 season.
“Our situation is following on from a difficult season for the Mustangs,” the club spokesperson told the Argus.
“A new executive was elected at the Mustangs AGM in August, however, due to unforeseen circumstances the executive has had to resign.
“The Mustangs are holding another AGM this Friday November 16 at 5pm at the Kempsey Dragons Junior Clubhouse at Verge St Stadium.
“While in 2018 the club struggled on the field with player numbers, off the field the club’s financial state is sound.
“All accounts from 2018 have been met and several sponsors have verbally committed to support the club in 2019.”
The Mustangs still need to fill coaches positions, committee member roles – including president – and are requesting all interested players to participate at this Friday’s meeting.
The Mustangs spokesperson encourages everyone to attend, to ensure the Macleay remains in the Group 3 competition to aid the development of the region’s talented junior rugby league players.
“This is the club’s last chance to participate in the 2019 season,” the Mustangs spokesperson said.
“The club is important to the community for a number of reasons. One vital reason is the pathway the club provides to the youth of the Macleay.

“Kempsey has a long history of providing both male and female players to the NRL and recently we saw local player and former Mustangs Owen Blair travel to Papua New Guinea as part of the Under-23s Country team. This pathway is only provided locally through the Group 3 competition, therefore it’s vital that the Macleay is represented in this competition.
“We need players, coaches, sponsors and supporters of the Mustangs to attend the AGM on Friday. Even if you don’t intend on being a part of the executive, your support will go a long way to finding the right people to fill the required positions.”
