Rovers have got their monkey off the back and earned their first win of the season, cruising to a six-wicket victory over Taree West in round six of the Premier league.

It was a convincing victory for Rovers, who chased down Taree West’s 103-run total in the 28th over.
Bowler Matt Scott claims it was an improved all-round performance from the side which led to the crucial victory.
“It was a strong win. We put in a strong batting and bowling performance. Usually it’s one or the other but this week we put it all together,” Scott said.
Rovers stamped their authority on the match from the start, picking up crucial wickets and drying up Taree West’s run rate.
“Our performance with the ball and in the field really set up the win,” Scott said.
“We took our chances and kept our bowling tight, forcing them to make the mistake.”
Kai Dunbar-Rudd 2/24, Jye Woodger 3/16 and Matt Scott 4/22 were the best of the bowlers.
Rovers’ start to the run chase wasn’t ideal, as they lost Ben Dowling (0) and Jye Woodger (5) cheaply but Mitch Korn (26) and Lachlan Dowling (48) were able to steady the ship before Jackson Korn (unbeaten 5) and Ethan Dowling (unbeaten 7) were able to hit the winning runs.
Scott was impressed by the young players stepping up to the challenge.
“We lost our openers early but Mitch and Lachlan really showed experience beyond their years to dig in and guide us to the win,” Scott said.
“That win takes the pressure off us but we still need to turn around next weekend and back it up.”
Scott believes the victory could be the catalyst Rovers needed to go on a mid-season surge.
“The win has given everyone a lot of confidence and the boys believe that we can give the competition a big shake as we do have the talent,” he said.
The win moves Rovers into seventh position on the ladder. The top four places contest the finals series.
Rovers remain on the road this Saturday as they face off with United at Chatham Park.
