Kenzie Parkins and Soraya Drayton participated in the Stockman’s Fun Day on the Saturday and were joined by Jorja Woods and Lilly McCormack on the Sunday for the Willawarrin Pony Club Ribbon and Trophy day.
Willawarrin Pony Club Stockman’s Fun Day was an excellent event concept that broadened the young riders’ experience of equestrian pursuits. The Cowless Campdraft, Time Trial, Stock Rider class and Mechanical Cow Cut Out were extremely enjoyable for the participants and provided the spectators with an infinitely entertaining display.
A combination of particular note was Sam Roseby and his gelding Charlie from Willawarrin Pony Club. Sam was participating in his first competition aboard Charlie, an elder statesman of the equine community. Proving correct the old adage, ‘age begets wisdom’, Charlie had a novel approach to the rope gate in the Time Trial. Perceiving that the height of the gate was relative to that of he and his young rider, Charlie proceeded to limbo under the rope successfully.
Unfortunately the combination was then required to follow a more conventional approach to the obstacle. The duo placed first in all their Beginner classes on the day.
The Nambucca riders put in sound performances with Kenzie Parkins winning all four classes in the Associate age group and Soraya Drayton placing second in the Cowless Campdraft, Stock Rider, Mechanical Cow Cut Out and third in the Time Trial.
The Willawarrin Pony Club and Trophy Day also saw the Nambucca River District Pony Club members produce creditable performances. Jorja Woods and Kenzie Parkins performed fine workouts to achieve Reserve Champion placings in the Junior Rider and Associate Rider Championship classes.
Soraya Drayton had a positive day that included placing first in the Beginner Hack and Working Horse classes and second in her Beginner Rider class. Lilly McCormack rode well on her mare Georgie, who can be excitable at times, to gain sixth place in the Scudda Ho Under 13 sporting class.
The weekend was highly enjoyable and the club looks forward to participating in next year’s competition. The Nambucca River District Pony Club would also like to acknowledge the fine performance of one of its members, Mallee Goldrick, in the recent Area 3 Showjumping Championships.
As a result of her efforts, Mallee has been selected as reserve for the Area 3 Sydney Royal Showjumping Team in 2019.
