Artist David McManus was born in 1967 in the coastal town of Port Macquarie residing in the area of Nobby’s Beach. He soon discovered a connection with the ocean, the jagged rocks and the rock pools of the local beaches spending much of his young life exploring and fishing the many different areas along the coast.

Whilst also residing on a property backing onto the local Kooloonbung Creek, the area now known as the Greenmeadows Estate which back in the 1980’s was home to many beautiful species of birds and insects, David spent many hours walking amongst these breeding grounds feeling a connection with the swamp lands. To this day he has fond memories of large flocks of Spoonbills, which sadly seem to have disappeared from the area in modern times. He recalls a pair of Jabirus being part of the landscape for many of his young teenage years. This triggered his love of painting native birds as features in his art.

Spending most of his working life as an earthmover. David had a life of hard work. Although being covered in dust and grime most of the day, it was being in contact with the clay and soils of the earth that inspired his love of handmade pottery and sculptures.

Then came his discovery of his ability to recreate the images of nature, he held within his memory, to pieces of art which he hand painted to his pottery creations.

Through the fait of a motorbike accident David found the time to spend on his love of art and developed his skills venturing into art works using watercolours then the use of oil paints.

Today David’s art works are creations from many places of the Mid North coast, photos of nature seascapes, waves, birds and all that is around us that capture his eye, creating his own realism into his artworks. He spends many hours capturing the array of colours, the depth of detail and his own connection with nature itself and expressing it in his artworks.

Art is a passion that David has held from a young age. He is exploring this passion in many ways from his pottery, painting and delving into the art of glass bead making. He is discovering the many ways to create designs and colours in hand torched glass beads and then creating the jewellery designs for his glass creations in many differing designs.

Now hoping to share his love of art and nature with all of us David has a range of framed prints of his original paintings, loose prints, pottery works, and a stunning range of handmade jewellery creations for sale just in time for a Christmas gift for that someone special in your life.

David will be showing his creations at the Kundabung Markets on Sunday so come and see for yourself and you may fall in love with one of David’s individual inspired works of art.
