And members would be justified in claiming it has been the most successful club in NSW, a remarkable achievement for such a small group.
At its End of Year Awards day, club members, officials, families, supporters and friends held a Picnic at Dangar Falls to celebrate:
- 60 years as a fully functioning pony club
- Running another successful camp for six consecutive days with more than 70 riders
- Conducting training days twice a month as well as competing in local zone gymkhanas and events
- Being judged NSW Pony Club of the year, ahead of nearly 300 clubs in NSW
- Hosting and running both the Zone and State Team Penning, Sporting and Camp Drafting Events
All of this by a club with about 25 young members and a similar number of officials, supporters and hard working volunteers.
Earlier this year club members were quietly delighted with the amount of positive feedback they received from visiting participants in the NSW State Championship.
Among the Awards Day highlights were the appearance of at least two original 1958 members of the club including first acting secretary, Noeline McGuire who cut a spectacular cake with one of the club’s youngest members Alice Frewen; the presence of many past and present club members and families; a surprise visit by former club junior, Brett Parbery, whose subsequent achievements include major camp drafting, competing in the United States on the Pro Rodeo Circuit , riding in the world equestrian games in U.S. and, now, gearing up for Olympic Games in Tokyo.
To commemorate the 60 years, North Dorrigo Pony club gifted the Under 25 members with embroidered jackets.
“Our members were very competitive throughout the year, and their success was made possible by the fantastic parent members and committee under the guidance of OJ Fahey the current president,” a club spokeperson said.
“If you would like to be a part of the club next year our AGM will be on January 16th @ 6pm at the Top Pub in Dorrigo.”
