For the past month, thirteen members have been in training to gain their Bronze Medallion and IRB Crew person.
On the first Sunday in December more than 40 members from the three Macleay Valley Surf Life Saving Clubs, South West Rocks, Hat Head and Kempsey-Crescent Head, gained their Surf Rescue Certificate, Bronze Medallion and IRB Crewperson or completed their annual proficiency.
South West Rocks SLSC Chief Training Officer Ian 'Spook' Everingham was glad to work with the other local clubs.
"It is great to see our three local clubs working together to train our new and current members,” Everingham said.
“This was a great turnout and I would like to thank all trainers for their time and effort they put into these courses to provide the skills required for our volunteer members to patrol the beaches."
It was also a wonderful celebration to see three generations of the Ball Family gaining their Bronze Medallions to patrol the beaches of South West Rocks.
Colin Ball gained his Bronze Medallion in 1957 and with his wife, Pam facilitated the Nipper program for more than ten years. Both Colin and Pam held various roles within the South West Rocks SLSC Committee and Surf Life Saving Mid North Coast over many decades and were awarded Life Membership of the Club in 1997.
Their sons Grahame and Geoff originally completed their Bronze Medallion in 1988 and completed the current course to once again be involved in the club they competed for as kids.
The third generation of the Ball Family, Billy, who also completed his Bronze Medallion and IRB Crewperson and Jack, who is one of the Under 8 Nippers, are continuing the family tradition.
