The Macleay Valley Country Education Foundation has been a recipient of the Mayoral Community Fund in previous years and has now exceeded $100,000 in grants for local students wishing to further their education over the past six years.
Mr Witchard thanked Kempsey Shire Council for supporting the foundation and for contributing to the grants.
"We have such a wonderful relationship with council. We thank council for supporting us throughout the years,” he said.
“We had eight recipients apply for this year’s grants, they are a wonderful group of people and all come from low income families. They will become inspirations for other young students in the community.”

The Country Education Foundation provides much needed financial support to local youth to help them achieve their post high school education. The grants go towards a range of aspects related to their study, from petrol money for travel, text books and uniforms for certain courses.
“We’re seeing a number of graduates coming through now who received the grant a few years ago. We’ve had two local students graduate from nursing this year,” Mr Witchard said.
“One of our grant recipients from 2014 has returned to the Macleay to work as a nurse at the Kempsey District Hospital.”
“Education is the way out of the rut of poverty and we will continue to provide these needed funds to local students from the Macleay Valley,” Mr Witchard said.
