Council became aware of a structural issue early yesterday morning and after an initial inspection by engineering experts a decision was made to close the bridge immediately.
The closure is required for urgent repairs to wastewater pipeline supports along the footbridge. Further structural investigations will be carried out to determine the extent of the repair needed.
Boating access in Back Creek is unaffected by the footbridge closure.
Council has erected signage on the site and has security in place to ensure public safety. Local businesses and community groups are being notified of the closure.
Council apologises for any inconvenience.
