“I've been doing this for 27 years on and off, never gotten a thank you before; the letter was just behind one of the plants. I’m very happy about that. Whoever it was, thank you,” Mr Young said.
The retired Taylors Arm resident began his side hobby when he started getting plants donated to him by residents who could no longer look after them.
“I relocate plants; people give me plants that they can’t look after anymore. After a while, you get sick of watering them.”
This unique business has seen him meet all kinds of people over the years, and even gained him a few friends along the way.
“I like growing plants and giving them away, people seem to like taking them, at holiday times I get a lot of the same people coming back, you can’t help but strike up a friendship. The regulars keep coming back.”
Mr Young has spent all these years operating with only a sign and a unique motto.
“Anybody can have them; they are “free to a good home”, I have Bunyu pines, silky oaks, among others.”
While the former farmer and bush worker has had breaks in the past, he has no plans to stop his plant giveaway.
