Victoria Police have given the 53-year-old actor a court attendance notice in relation to the charges.
A year ago The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, in conjunction with the ABC, revealed that several female co-stars from the 2014 production of the Rocky Horror show accused McLachlan of indecent and inappropriate behaviour.
McLachlan, famous for his starring roles in the Doctor Blake Mysteries, Neighbours and Home and Away was charged on summons to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on February 8, 2019.
One of the country's leading musical performers, Christie Whelan Browne, who performed the lead role of Janet during the 2014 Rocky Horror tour, has told police that McLachlan indecently assaulted her during the show.
Whelan Browne said that while performing a sex scene with McLachlan he inappropriately touched her while on stage. There was a bed sheet so that the audience could not see what was happening.
Another actress Erika Heynatz alleged that she was sitting on a couch in the green room of Melbourne's Comedy Theatre when McLachlan walked over and "straddled me on the couch, knee either side and started kissing my neck".
A third actress, Angela Scundi complained that McLachlan exposed himself to her and another occasion, when the actor was wearing only satin boxer shorts, he hugged.
On that occasion Scundi said: "He pushed his pelvis into me and moved around so I could feel his penis against my body," It is understood that another actress on the same production has also complained to police about McLachlan indecently assaulting her during the 2014 Rocky Horror season.
McLachlan has denied the claims and commenced defamation action against the Herald, The Age , the ABC and Whelan Browne.
A four-week trial is scheduled to commence in the NSW Supreme Court on February 4.
