The triathlon is run by a dedicated group who put in a big effort to make the weekend such a success each year. What’s so fantastic is that people of all ages and fitness levels can get involved, and it’s a great social activity for spectators to enjoy. Not only does it help to bring visitors to the Rocks, which gives a boost to businesses in the area, but the money raised is distributed to local volunteer groups who help out in running the event. Good luck to all of this year’s competitors, and I look forward to joining you on the Sunday at the awards presentation.
BreastScreening
A screening mammogram is the best way to detect breast cancer early, before you are aware of any symptoms. That’s why screening mammograms are so important, because breast cancer treatment is most successful when it’s picked up in the early stages before it spreads.
The BreastScreen mobile unit is coming to Kempsey in early February until the middle of May and will be set up in the grounds of Kempsey District Hospital.
It’s free for women over 50 and you don’t need a doctor’s referral, so 20 minutes well-spent every two years could save your life. For more information, visit breastscreen.nsw.gov.au or to book an appointment call 13 20 50.
Stay Safe in our Water ways
With soaring, hot temperatures expected this Australia Day long weekend, we’ll see many visitors and locals head to our spectacular beaches and bushland recreational areas to enjoy the final days of the summer school holidays.
Have a great time enjoying the fabulous beaches and waterways our valley is blessed to have, but please stay safe by swimming between the flags, and try to keep an eye out for visitors who may not be as familiar with our surf conditions and local creeks and rivers.
