Kristy Roberts spoke to the Argus about the whole experience and the response from the community of Walgett.
“They were very overwhelmed when we arrived, they were speechless actually,” Ms Roberts said.
“It was very emotional to see the community be so thankful for what we had done for them. They haven’t seen clean water for months.”
10 members of Kristy’s family made the 10 hour trip to Walgett, with most of the water that was delivered being donated by the Macleay as well as Newcastle and the Northern Rivers.
“We ended up delivering over 1000 slabs of water in 47 degree heat. But that water won’t last them long,” Ms Roberts said.
“The weather is so hot out there and having no water to drink is just terrible. I can’t believe they are dealing with this.”
Ms Roberts said her family are very grateful for the community’s generosity.
“We’re very thankful to the community who donated water and helped us with transport and organising the water run, we’re very appreciative of their help.”
There will be a second water run in a few weeks time, locals can donate water in Kempsey at the Durri Medical Centre and in South West Rocks at 7 Mayta Moran Close and 2993 South West Rocks Rd.
