It’s a big moment for everyone … parents and teachers as well as the children.
The Guardian News dropped in to see how the day went and met a few switched on five-year-olds …
The monkey bars and finding friends who she’d been to preschool with were highlights for Piper Reid.
Hunter Didio was a lad of few words but his smile said it all … “it was pretty good!”
And Harley Petrassi listed going to the library, using the bubblers and finding herself sitting near the air-conditioning as moments of note on her first day.
“The school is so big – there are so many places to explore,” Harley, who only arrived in Australia in November, said.
“The teachers read to us and then we got to colour-in.”
MPS kindergarten teacher Maya Norville said Day One was all about settling the children in.
“Most of them are pretty nervous but it doesn’t take long for them to relax as they learn the routines,” Maya said.
“I read them a story about starting school first and then we take pictures of them and they write their names. The day slips away!”
We’d love to see your photos of starting school …
