The race, proposed and designed by the late Garry Gilles, has after 30 consecutive years running become arguably one of the best entry-level distances in the area, and also a race selected to be part of the new North Coast Triathlon Championship Series.
Among the throng of other keen racers are over 20 members of the Hat Head Tri Club eager to compete.
The Hat Head Tri Club all started at the Hat Head Surf club several years ago when patrolling numbers were down. A side training group was created to help people to get their bronze medallion and triathlon training got them more confident in the water which helped both them and the club.
Initially, the focus was on sprint distance races at Woolgoolga and the upcoming Trial bay race but as they progressed further, they ventured further into the world of triathlons and competed in Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie.
N.S.W. Triathlon started a North Coast race series in the 2018/19 season, and the Hat Head Tri Club was invited to race against other clubs including, Byron Bay, Clarence Valley, Coffs Harbour, Ballina and Port Macquarie.
There are seven races in the series, and at the end of round 3, the Hat Head Tri Club is sitting in 3 rd place behind Ballina and Clarence Valley.
The upcoming Trial Bay triathlon is race four of the series and the more than twenty members of the triathlon club will be out to maintain the clubs position on the ladder.
Previously, they held the number two spot on the ladder, but a few tough races saw them drop to 3 rd.
Late entries for the triathlon will be on Saturday between 4 pm and 7 pm with registration at the Country Club.
The Nestle Mini Tri Series is for children aged 5 to 15 years, and it starts at the new time of 10 am. The Nestle event will accept entries up to one hour before the race start.
Entries are available online at www.trialbaytri.com.au or the coastline credit union web site: www.coastline.com.au, there are no late entries on Sunday for the adult race. Competitors and supporters should arrive early.
