Council’s manager Water and Sewer, Wes Trotter, said flows of 260 megalitres a day had been recorded at the Turners Flat gauge, averting the need to introduce water restrictions at this stage.
“It’s a huge catchment area and while we are still continuing to get storm and rainfall events there, we are maintaining the flows that we need,” Mr Trotter said.
The long-term weather forecasts are predicting further rainfall in the catchment area in the next couple of weeks which will continue to ease the pressure on local water supplies.
Council staff will continue to monitor the situation and keep the community up-to-date with any changes.
In the meantime, council encourages all residents in the Macleay to be mindful of their water usage and follow some simple water-saving tips.
Water conservation in the home:
- Check taps and toilets for leaks
- Install water-saving shower heads and low-flow taps.
- Take shorter showers.
- Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth
- Use your dishwasher and clothes washer for full loads
Water conservation in the yard and garden:
- Plant drought-resistant lawns, shrubs and plants
- Put a layer of mulch around trees and plants
- Water during the early parts of the day
- Use a trigger nozzle when washing your car
- Use a broom, not a hose, to clean driveways and sidewalks
