Embracing the state-wide theme, Love Your Life, special activities were offered throughout the week, including the opportunity to participate in Festival Activities held throughout the Macleay Valley.
Lifestyle Coordinator Kate Seccold commented on the wonderful joy-filled spirit throughout the week as residents embraced and showed how they continue to love and celebrate life every day.
“At Vincent Court we celebrate life every day through our genuine person-centred approach, ensuring that there are always a variety of opportunities for our residents, encouraging them to continue their hobbies and interests and be immersed in the lives of their families and the community,” Ms Seccold said.
In-house activities included a special visit by St Paul’s College students who led a number of activities with residents; as well as entertainers Roy Fraser, Sentimental Journey, Yarrapinni Community Choir, and the ever-popular singalong with Val Flanagan.
Outings included bus trips to South West Rocks, Wauchope RSL Club, and Telegraph Point, where residents enjoyed culinary delights and soaked up the beauty of the mid north coast.
One of the highlights of the week was a special Mass and morning tea held at All Saints Catholic Church. Residents, staff, volunteers and their families came together to give thanks for the gift of the elderly in our community, to pray for the elderly and for all those who care for them.
Pastoral Coordinator Jeff Coade explained at the special Mass that the statewide theme “reminds us that one of the most precious gifts we have is the maturity and wisdom of the elderly. They are the guardians of our traditions and memories. They are the link across generations. It is a special gift to have the opportunity to spend time with our elders, to serve them and learn from them.”
Residents and staff began the Mass by bringing forward five special symbols.
A prayer book and rosary beads; symbolising the elderly’s commitment to Christ, gift of prayer, and how they have shared their faith across the generations.
A crocheted rug: symbolising the warmth and dignity of the elderly who share their gifts with our community A photo of the hands of an elderly married couple: symbolising boundless love and wisdom.
The values underpinning Vincent Court: symbolising how we seek to be Christ to the elderly each and every day.
The Mass also included a special powerpoint presentation entitled ‘Love Your Life’, music led by the parish band, and concluded with a special morning tea in the parish hall.
