The Seabreeze Beach Hotel Fishing Club held its most recent competition on March 2 and 3. There were 104 nominations of which 22 were juniors. Conditions seemed quite congenial from a land-based perspective although the outside fishos all reported it was a bit “joggly” out there.

There was a reasonable variety of fish weighed in with 55kg being presented to the Weigh Master. There was also a reasonable variety of people involved in the competition with quite a few juniors fronting up to collect a prize. For example, Jack Riach a very keen and
capable junior, fished outside to win with a 4.49kg Spotted Mackerel and he also fished inside to claim a prize with a 570gm Dusky Flathead.
The other outside prizes were shared around between a number of seniors. Greg Allen won with a Pearl Perch of 835gm; Matt Lewis with a 790gm Snapper; Col Barber with a 5.270kg Spotted Mackerel and Dave Riddel with a 1.340kg Venus Tusk Fish. Dave also won Outside Angler of the Month with 2 species.
The result sheet for the inside (beach, rock and estuary) section was interesting in that all the nominated species were accounted for and for the variety of age groups fronting up to collect a prize. This variety ranged from elder gurus like Pat Halverson with a 340gm Whiting and Damien Ashley winning Inside Angler of the Month with four species.
“Tenunda” Olivia Wright won with 1.660kg Dusky Flathead and Savannah Kane won with a 2.860kg Mulloway. Another junior, Lucy Mansfield did well winning with a 350gm Tarwhine and also Junior Angler of the Month with two species.
Father and daughter combo, David and Erin Cook, took out the Bream prize, David with a 855gm fish and Erin with a 850gm fish. Erin also caught the largest Dusky flathead, for a lady, with a 995gm specimen.
Other inside prize winners were Michael Faint with a 1.330kg Dusky Flathead; Wendy Halverson with a 325gm Whiting and Mick Kane with an 810gm Tailor.
The March competition signalled the end of the point score competition year for the 2018/2019 season. April’s competition will be the start of the new competition year and come with a clean slate.
Next competition the weekend of April 6 and 7.
