The scheme provides items not covered by other funding sources and the Talarm Brigade has had their wish list filled.
Captain Brian Liddell said the brigade received funding for a water system, flare kits, a fridge/freezer, GPS navigation system, reversing camera and two traffic batons.
“This is essential equipment that ensures the safety and welfare of our volunteers during operations as well as improving our ability to respond to fires and motor vehicle accidents,” Mr Liddell said.
“Six of our last eight call outs have been to motor vehicle accidents, and the traffic batons and flare kits will improve the safety of our volunteers during these incidents, particularly at night, by improving their visibility to drivers.
“We have some newer members of the brigade and the GPS navigation will assist them in unfamiliar territory. The team will also be able to communicate locations easily and accurately to the Fire Control Centre which will improve the deployment time for additional resources.
“The fridge will enable easy access of our volunteers to cold water and food during deployment which can often be in very not conditions. This improves not only our volunteers’ welfare but also helps retain and encourage them."
He said the brigade was unable to raise the funds for the equipment and was grateful for the assistance from the RFSA.
"The application process was very straightforward - we encourage other brigades to give it a go.”
RFSA President Ken Middleton said the NSW RFSA Grant Scheme was a highly valued support service that enhanced brigades ability to operate.
