If you love a good bargain, be sure to pop Gladstone and Smithtown on your destination list on State Election Day this month.
The twin riverside towns are joining forces with more than 20 homes hosting a garage sale on the same day.
Many local businesses are also participating with special offers, clearance sales and special menus to keep bargain hunters fed and watered.
Organised by the local Gladstone Evening CWA Branch, their aim is simple;
"We want to host an event that gets the community visiting each other, while also providing an opportunity to clear out their cupboards for a good cause," says CWA President Amanda McDonnell.
"Everyone has to go out and vote so we'd love them to come to Gladstone and Smithtown, grab a bargain, eat a scone and help us raise funds.
"We're hoping to raise funds to provide scholarships for students to undertake accredited Community Service qualifications at Kempsey TAFE.
Homes in Gladstone and Smithtown are encouraged to participate by hosting a garage sale at their place on March 23 from 8am.
Registration is just $15 and will include a listing on the electronic and printed Rummage Sale maps, as well as signs and balloons to attract bargain hunters.
The CWA ladies will be set up near the polling station in the Gladstone Community Hall, selling Rummage Sale maps for $2 as well as delicious fresh scones with jam and cream.
"While we're so much more than knitting and scones, it really wouldn't be Election Day without a good old-fashioned cake stall featuring the best scones in the Macleay, says Secretary Beth.
"We already have over 20 registrations, with our aim being to have 40 homes and businesses involved".
