Local RFS crews are continuing to contain the Seale Rd fire at Belmore River this afternoon.
The fire is not threatening any property or dwellings at this time.
However, the blaze is generating a lot of smoke and due to a wind change, the smoke is settling over a wide area including Kempsey.
Update 10am
Kempsey RFS received a call to a bush fire burning near the intersection of Seale and Verges Creek Rd just after 3pm yesterday afternoon.
RFS crews were assisted by Kempsey Fire and Rescue trucks, who underwent property protection in the area.
Additional trucks were called in last night as the blaze continued to burn through low-lying swamp and paperbark plantations.
Crews worked throughout the night to bring the fire under control. The blaze was brought under control at around 10pm last night.
RFS contained the blaze, however the fire jumped the eastern containment line at 4am.
The fire is still currently burning and seven RFS trucks have arrived on scene this morning.
A NSW RFS helicopter will also attend the scene today to map the area of burnt bush land and to assist in water bombing if needed.
The fire, as of this morning, has burnt through 500 hectares.
There is no immediate threat and the fire is at Advice level.
