The premier attacked Labor for preferencing the Shooters in several country seats during a trip to the state's northern rivers on Wednesday.

Ms Berejiklian said the deal might lead to the state's strict gun laws being watered down if opposition leader Michael Daley was elected premier on March 23 with the help of the Shooters.

"I do not want to see the policies the Shooters want to see in NSW become mainstream policies," Ms Berejiklian told reporters in Lismore.

"If Labor and the Shooters were ever to govern NSW they would become mainstream policies."

But Mr Daley argued preferencing the Shooters in some marginal seats didn't mean the ALP was endorsing the minor party's platform.

The Labor leader said when he was police minister the Shooters made many demands.

"They wanted the gun laws relaxed. I said 'No' then and I'll say 'No' again in the future," he told the National Press Club in Sydney.

"There'll be no relaxing of gun laws, whatsoever, under any circumstances, under a government I lead."

The coalition is at risk of losing a handful of regional seats including Tweed and Lismore in northern NSW.

Barwon, in the state's northwest, could also be lost with the Shooters shaping as favourites in the vast electorate held by the Nationals since 1950.

The premier - travelling with Deputy Premier John Barilaro - took aim at Labor's luxury car tax proposal which would increase stamp duty on vehicles over $100,000.

The pair met with a farmer, tradesman and an automotive dealer near Lismore who said they'd lose money.

"To have the smoke and mirrors to class a prime mover as a luxury - how can you call a truck a luxury?" local dealership owner Steve Robinson told reporters.

Nationals candidate Austin Evans said the new tax wouldn't just hurt high-flyers driving expensive sports cars.

"These are the trucks and vehicles that move us around and this is just another slog to the hip pocket of country towns and regions like Lismore," he said.

But Mr Daley hit back stating: "It's not a new impost. If you're paying it now you'll pay a little bit more. If you're not paying it now, you won't pay it."

Ms Berejiklian also weighed in on Labor's desire to see government workers' wages rise beyond three per cent, telling reporters it would just give "middle managers in the public service" a pay rise.

The premier said wages for NSW public servants had risen more than those in the private sector.

Labor would scrap the 2.5 per cent cap and instead have the independent Industrial Relations Commission set public sector wages.

"They should be able to stand in front of an independent umpire and say 'We deserve a better deal'," Mr Daley said.

"We can only do as a government what we can do for the workers that fall ... within our power."
