The art award and contemporary cultural objects exhibition is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists who reside in the region's traditional areas of Worimi, Biripi, Dhanggatti and Gumbaynggirr nations.
Entry is free and the deadline is 4pm Friday, March 29. Entries will undergo a selection process by guest curator, Brisbane-based Amanda Hayman.
The acquisitive art award of $5,000 is proudly supported by the Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance Aboriginal Corporation.
The winner will be announced at the opening night of the exhibition on May 24 at the Glasshouse Regional Gallery in Port Macquarie.
"Art is a powerful vehicle that can evoke emotion, empathy and social connectiveness and this initiative has the ability to strengthen relationships within the region," Ms Hayman said.
"Visual art has always been an important communication tool for Aboriginal people as it depicts our enduring cultural sovereignty and a myriad of contemporary expressions.
"The award provides a significant opportunity to bring together unique stories from the Mid North Coast of NSW, for all to appreciate."
As with past awards and exhibitions, each is a celebration of Aboriginal arts and culture from the Mid North Coast of NSW and attracts record attendees from across the community.
The 2019 touring dates are:
24 May to 6 July - Glasshouse Regional Gallery, Port Macquarie
19 July to 14 September - Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery, Coffs Harbour
18 October to 30 November - Manning Regional Gallery, Taree
14 December to 8 February 2020 - Wadjar Aboriginal Art Gallery, Corindi Beach
The touring exhibition is made possible with funding from the Create NSW Regional Cultural Fund and in collaboration with the partner galleries.
An arts and culture collective program will run alongside the award and exhibition.
The program is funded by Create NSW, Creative Koori.
SWFW is a 100 per cent Aboriginal-owned and run not-for-profit organisation governed by a board representing ten Local Aboriginal Land Councils on the Mid North Coast of NSW.
