Organised by education officer and volunteer Lee Hoinville, the event saw several stations set up around the museum where children could learn about dinosaurs and have hands-on experiences with bones.
"Children really like dinosaurs, we have areas where the children can dig up dinosaur bones, crawl into a prehistoric cave, dress up as dinosaurs and paleontologists, it's all hands on," Ms Hoinville said.
"By handling the bones the children can learn and have fun, they have to look at the bones and see what kind of teeth they have to discover whether it was a carnivore or a herbivore, carnivores have sharp teeth, while herbivores have flat square teeth."
The next event will be later this year and have a different theme but will keep the same hands-on approach.
"We have two of these a year; we chose dinosaurs for this one because they are so popular, the next one will be in the September school holidays and will have an ocean theme, everyone is welcome to bring their children down," Ms Hoinville said.
