A special Commemorative Service for the 2/3 AHS Centaur will be conducted under the auspices of Macksville RSL sub-Branch this Saturday at the War Memorial, River St, Macksville at 11am.

The sinking of the unarmed hospital ship is of particular significance to the Nambucca Valley as Macksville's Dr Hindmarsh was one of the 268 casualties.
Also lost was Aubrey Long brother of Macksville businessman Arthur Long, and the family of Eric Taylor (survivor, since deceased) was farming at Tewinga.
The Centaur sustained the greatest loss of life of any Australian merchant vessel in WWII.
