Kempsey Sporting Car Club conducted Shannon's Insurance Round four of the Mantic Clutch NSW Hillclimb Championship at the Mount Cooperabung track last weekend.

Practice on the Saturday was damp and disappointing, however Sunday the skies cleared and promised a great day of racing.
Local Boy Darren Read led the way after the first run. But the reigning 2018 Australian Hill Climb champion, Malcolm Oastler smashed the outright track record on his second run with a blistering time of 22.734 seconds. Oastler went on to lower the record on his third run with a winning time of 22.313 seconds.
Queensland's Dean Tighe was hot on Oastler heals with a best time of 22.939 seconds gaining him second outright.
Darren Read drove flawlessly to gain third outright with a best time of 23.611.
Fourth outright was veteran Hillclimber Ron Hay produced a personal best time at Cooperabung droving his Dallara V8 with a best time of 25.265.
Fifth outright and first in the formula Libra 750cc to 1300cc class was another Kempsey driver Dave Morrow.
Newcastle's James Pearson drove his Mazda RX7 to take out the fastest tin top with a best time of 27.423.
The non registered class was won by local driver Daniel Oram with a best time of 29.609 seconds.
The Road Registered non log book class, known as the "Commodore cup" (due to the amount of Holden's competing) was won by the only Ford Falcon in the field, driven by Tamworth driver Wayne Grosser with a best time of 29.048 seconds.
In all, four records were broken and a new record for Time Attack was established.
The NSW Hillclimb Championship will be conducted over eight rounds this year. Rounds one and two were held at Bathurst's famous Mount Panorama circuit. Round three was held at Canberra's, Fairbairn Park Motorsport complex.
Round five will be held at Grafton's Mountain View hill climb, Round six at Tamworth's Oakburn Park Circuit. Round seven MG car Club of Newcastle's Ringwood Park, and the final round eight will be held at Wollongong's Huntly Hillclimb Track.
