He did it, he did it, yes, Graheme Martin got his name higher up the Kempsey Veterans Golf Club honour roll by winning last week's Bill Quinn Memorial Shield stableford.

Several times a Club Champion prior to last year and many other successes to boot, Martin, surprisingly, had not figured amongst the list of Shield winners.
A par round of 56 that led to 33 points was best of the day, albeit after a countback with 2017 winner, lesserlight Phil Pinney. Yes, their handicaps are rather different, we know that.
There is no doubting that Phil would have reversed the judges' decision if it had gone his way as he's a real stickler for fairness. Rules are rules though.
Good to have Bill Quinn's daughter, Jennifer (Hamilton), with us once again to present the awards and an assurance was given that the Memorial Shield Day will continue for many a year yet.
After all, it is well-known that Dr Bill Quinn was a foundation member of the Club way back in 1977 and scribed the history booklet that defined the 25th Anniversary in 2002. Believe me, it is a good read.
Whilst A and C-grade provided the topscorers of the special 14-hole stableford, Mark Townsend - he's from Euroka - gained his B-grade victory with 31 points.
Mark did gain reward after a countback with same group player John Terlich and maybe a chip-in at the very last 18th hole had worth. one way or any other.
A new Srixon was John's reward and so too for Ray O'Brien (31), whilst Jack Tolman, Terry Smith and Trevor Bailey followed suit on 30 and Robert Johnston and Chris Gorman closed out the ball competition with 29 points.
In the nearest the pins, C-grader Grahem Irving highlighted the par-3 third hole with a tee shot to within the metre circle and a six-pack of Srixons came his way. A bit harder and a hole-in-one for sure and certain!
Gorman was best of the A-grade shooters and Dennis O'Brien made his day winning B-grade, whilst Max Gleeson showed a little bit of class for top grade honours at the tougher eighth hole.
Chip-ins were performed by Bob Mavin, Gleeson and Townsend.
President Alan (Macdonald) offered a warm welcome to Jennifer in opening his address and then let it be known that Ron Ingall was a worthy stand-in for regular shopkeeper John Inder.
The boss did not know that Beranghi had had his worst round ever, so credit must be given for his brave outlook despite frustration that had set in. His buttered buns and salad did pass the test.
Again Jim Meldrum came on stage to provide some amusement and his bit of a yarn relating to three persons seeking employment received loud applause.
Good to have a laugh and we say "keep 'em coming Jim."
Captain Robert (Dykes) explained Graheme Martin's winning round and offered congratulations for such a fine score from a five handicapper.
At the conclusion of the awards presentation the captain advised that today's event was to be a 14-hole 2-person Ambrose.
Visitors are invited to take part and a phone call to our starter, Broday (Clarke), on 65626291 is recommended. Tee-off is 9.30am.
