In a sod-turning ceremony, Ms Pavey said that once construction is completed, Macksville Hospital will be a game changer in Nambucca Valley health care. The new hospital is being built on a 'greenfield' site, three kilometres north of the Macksville town centre, midway between Macksville and Nambucca Heads.
"Today celebrates the beginning of the main works in the NSW Government's commitment to building a new $73 million hospital at Macksville," she said.
"It has been a long journey; it would have to be at least six years since Mayor Rhonda Hoban took me through the old hospital to show first hand that the building was nearing the end of its life."
"Then, when I became the member for Oxley, I did everything in my power to ensure the new hospital project would go ahead."
Last month, Dr Danny Ryan petitioned the Nambucca Shire Council for support in a bid to gain additional funding for a CT scanner in the new Macksville and District Hospital, a request that is currently being considered by the board.
"Once complete, the project scope also includes an emergency department, inpatient units, operating theatres, maternity services and community and allied health facilities," Ms Pavey said.
"In addition, during the build, our local 'tradies' get more work. It's a boost to our local economy."
Ms Pavey said late last year, the lead contractor for the project was announced as the major Australian construction company, Hansen Yuncken, and soon after, came the significant earthworks.

Since then, bulk excavation work has enabled in-ground services to be installed, as well as footings and foundation works.
"It has been months of hard work from everyone to reach this point, thanks to all the staff, the board and this magnificent valley for their efforts. Let's get it built," the member for Oxley said.
The hospital development is on track for completion in late 2020 with an operational commissioning phase to follow, before the transfer of services from the existing hospital and the commencement of clinical operations from the new hospital.
