The Foundation has pledged $15,000 to the Kitchen Garden Project, allowing the installation of shutters to the railway carriage kitchen enabling the curriculum integrated activity to operate in all weather conditions.
Aldavilla Primary School principal Kathryn McNee said the financial support from Coastline and the shutters will mean no class will miss out on cooking but they will stay safe, warm and protected from the elements in the enclosed area.
"Developing a productive vegetable garden and introducing the kitchen has made it possible for students to be led into a world of good food, nurturing a place to share healthy eating habits," Mrs McNee said.
The benefits of the program begin at preparing and serving meals but reaches new heights of educating students on practical experiences in cultivating, planting, growing and harvesting food in the school's garden.
"The engagement and enjoyment the students feel from the Kitchen Garden Project is evident throughout every cooking class and garden class. The students win many awards at the Kempsey Show, creating experiences to form positive food habits for life," Mrs McNee said.
This paddock to plate approach inspires skills into a generation of students which will provide them with everyday competencies they will carry on as they progress through their life stages.
"Aldavilla School, staff and the P&C would like to thank Coastline very much for their generous support. This means a lot to us and the students now and moving forward," Mrs McNee said.
