A year after being held to a disappointing nil-all draw against Wauchope, Kempsey Saints fired six goals into the back of the same opposition's net.
Saints remain in fifth position after the 6-1 victory but the two-horse race with the Camden Haven Redbacks for the last finals position is heating up.
Both teams are equal on 20 competition points but Kempsey boasts a far superior goal differential.
Their goal difference was aided by the sharp shooting of Jake Conomos and Kurtis Smith in the first half.
Conomos opened the scoring inside the opening 10-minutes and doubled the hosts advantage shortly after.
In the lead up to the half-time break, Smith fired in two quick goals to rewarded Saints for a dominant first half.
Saints' relentlessness and intencity continued after the break and Troy Ward added his name to the scorer's sheet after he beat the wall from a free kick for the second straight week.
Wauchope grabbed one back after an uncharacteristic mistake from goalkeeper Jacob Lyttle but the five-goal cushion was re-established after Wauchope committed an own-goal.
Saints coach Kevin Sinclair was relieved his side was able to come away with the three competition points.
"It's one of those tricky games where you're expected to win but sometimes things don't go your way," Sinclair said.
"We had an electric start, played our own game and were in control for the majority of the contest which was very pleasing."
With four rounds remaining, Sinclair understands how important it is to pick up a result from every game.
"We have a similar run home to the Redbacks and each game will have a lot of importance placed on it," Sinclair said.
"Hopefully a few results can go our way and we continue to play well and give ourselves the best chance of playing in the finals."
Saints take on the competition leaders Port United on the road this Saturday while the Redbacks will battle the fourth-placed Port Saints at home.
