In her exhibition, Shadows making Shapes, Rowena has chosen to present works based on observed complexities and on shadow.
"I love how shadow alone can define a shape and I like works that require the viewer to stop and explore for a little while a subject they might normally just walk past," Rowena said.
"There are some paintings in the exhibition of metal objects which were inspired by an eye opening workshop called 'Colour, Light and Vision' that I attended at the Julian Ashton School in Sydney.
"There are also some small marker pen and pencil works which are a continuation of my fascination with line and shadow. I am still amazed that every time I attempt to colour in one of these it becomes so ordinary and disappointing to me."
Rowena's background includes workshops in Sydney, Armidale and Nambucca Heads, a short TAFE drawing course as well as six years as member of Ross Laurie's art class in Armidale.
She has exhibited in group exhibitions and solo exhibitions in Sydney, Walcha and Armidale including at the New England Regional Art Museum.
Rowena's exhibition will open with the customary morning tea on Wednesday, August 7, 10am at the Stringer Gallery in Ridge St.
