The accused man did not appear in court.
The matter will return to Kempsey Local Court on Monday October 23, by which time the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) will have reviewed the case.
At about 9.15pm on Friday, August 3, police and emergency services responded to reports a man had been stabbed at a property on Pipers Creek Rd, Dondingalong.
On arrival, NSW Ambulance paramedics declared the 54-year-old man deceased.
Officers from Mid North Coast Police District established a crime scene and began inquiries.
Shortly after, emergency services were called to a single vehicle crash on Pipers Creek Rd.
The driver and sole occupant - a 40-year-old man - was removed from the vehicle and taken to hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.
The man was released from hospital on Monday, August 5, and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station, where he was charged with murder.
