Detective Inspector of the Local Area Command, Guy Flaherty, said a highway patrol car was present last week and picked up one driver for a traffic offence.
"I have tasked our General Duties officers to be there during the afternoons plus there will be a morning presence whenever possible," Insp Det. Flaherty said.
He said he was also very concerned that parents and children were not always crossing at the designated areas.
"We have had reports of people coming out from behind parked cars into the traffic, which is very dangerous."
School principal Phillip Maunder said driver behaviour around the school had been an ongoing problem that was raised with both the police and Nambucca Shire Council.
"Everyone has been very supportive - the police are doing what they can to help," Mr Maunder said.
