The 12-year-old earned selection into the PSSA sides for both sports after showcasing his ability for Lower North Coast.
Tom was picked to play scrumhalf at the State Schools Rugby Union Carnival and despite some unfortunate luck for the team to begin the tournament, the side managed to punch above their weight and finish ninth out of the 15 teams.
North Coast defeated Sydney East, who ended up finishing third, in their first game and picked up another victory, two draws and two defeats over the three days.
It was Tom's second year in the representative side and North Coast coach Matt Scott was impressed with the scrumhalf's leadership.
"Tom played really well. He was given specific jobs to do as a number 9 and he stuck to them. When it got hard, he didn't panic," Scott said.
"Tom was picked because at the trials he showed good game awareness and had a good passing game. He also has a sound knowledge of rugby.
"Tom made the side two years in a row and he showed some good leadership qualities this year."
The North Coast side is selected from public school students from Camden Haven to Tweed Heads and from as far west as Casino, Grafton, Dorrigo, Long Flat and Comboyne.
Tom was picked as a top order batsman for the North Coast side for the State Schools Carnival held in mid-October but he's also quite handy with the ball-in-hand.
"Hopefully he can go down there, string a few performances together and score some runs," Tom's father Danny said.
Tom is a Rovers junior and Danny is looking forward to playing alongside his son in the third grade competition this season.
