The new $91,000 state-of-the-art facility includes an upgrade to the practice wickets at South West Rocks Sporting Complex as part of the NSW ICC T20 World Cup Legacy Fund with additional funding from the Community Building Partnership Program, Cricket Australia, Kempsey Shire Council and Macleay Valley Cricket Association.
The Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey MP, said with significant growth in playing numbers anticipated across the mid-North Coast, the facility would support player development.
"The NSW ICC T20 World Cup Legacy Fund will deliver up to $6 million dollars to local cricket clubs and councils to support the growth in cricket participation in NSW," Mrs Pavey said.
Kempsey Shire Council Mayor Liz Campbell said the new facility would offer great community benefits.
"It's exciting we now have this newly completed facility ready to be utilised by local clubs for the cricket season. Investing in our local sporting facilities fosters community participation and inspires generations of players into the sport," she said.
Macleay Valley Cricket Association President Ben Paix said the new cricket facility was an investment for the wider community.
"It's a great investment not just in cricket but from a social and health perspective for the entire Macleay region," Mr Paix said.
"I'd like to thank the volunteers for their tireless efforts in bringing this new facility to reality."
